OLYMPUS INTRODUCES THE REVOLUTIONARY PEN E-P1 Olympus, one of the leading international brands in the opto-digital industry today, unveiled its latest innovation, the Olympus PEN E-P1, an interchangeable lens system digital camera compliant with the Micro Four- Thirds System standard. This revolutionary product embraces the revolutionary Micro Four-Thirds technology that puts the Olympus brand in a whole new league of digital photography. The new product revolves around creative innovation to give superbly high quality results in both still photography and amazingly sharp videos with Art Filter functions which is sure to attract a huge segment of young, mobile and tech-savvy consumers and even photography professionals. Speaking to the media at the roll-out event, Mr Tan Tick Boon, Managing Director of Olympus (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd said, “Today’s event marks a revolutionary achievement for Olympus, both from the corporate and brand standpoints, as the Olympus PEN E-P1 kicks off a new era in the photography industry of the 21st century. “The name ‘Olympus Pen’ comes with a rich history of the company’s legendary half-frame film camera introduced fifty years ago, in October 1959. This was a best-seller with some 17 million units sold worldwide, as people enjoyed the pleasures of photography at its finest, then. Today’s new product bears the same product name as it brings the same breakthrough in size reduction and convenience as the original PEN, besides boasting a sleek stylish design that mirrors the charm of its namesake. “With the Micro Four-Thirds system standard, the PEN E-P1 features an internal mirrorless compact and lightweight compressed body never seen before, presenting a radical reduction in size that does not compromise on the features of SLR cameras such as high performance and high picture quality. “We foresee the E-P1 becoming a fast favourite amongst photography enthusiasts, whether they be aspiring beginners or even the entrenched professionals. “The release of this Micro Four Thirds System compliant product is a key part of Olympus’ corporate and brand strategy to improve our market share especially within the DSLR category market. We strongly believe that this new hybrid camera will appeal to Malaysia for its four key features which is compact, DLSR quality, High Definition movie with art filter and easy operation. The Olympus Pen E-P1 will start retailing come the first week of July, 2009 at RM2,999, including the standard 14 – 42 mm kit lens. Available in a choice of two classic colours, of Silver and Black. “A very interesting feature and sure to be a popular one too is its High Definition movie shooting that can be recorded with the widescreen 16:9 (1280 x 720, 30 fps) aspect ratio, as well as with the standard 4:3 (640 x 480, 30 fps) ratio. “Because the image sensor is much larger than those used in normal camcorders, this camera not only delivers higher image quality but also makes it possible to exploit a variety of effects unique to interchangeable-lens photography, such as the defocused image backgrounds produced by controlling the aperture or the arresting perspectives that can be achieved with different interchangeable lenses,” concluded Mr Tan. - ends - Main Features:
